Kenya international midfielder Timothy Ouma has completed his move to English Championship side Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan from Czech First League club Slavia Prague.
Charlton confirmed the deal on Monday, with the agreement also including an option for the club to make Ouma’s move permanent, subject to certain conditions.
The 21-year-old becomes the Addicks’ seventh signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Ivan Mesík, Billy Koumetio, Karlan Grant, Danny McNamara, Millenic Alli and Nathaniel Chalobah.

Timothy Ouma joins Charlton Athletic
Ouma expressed his delight after completing the move to south-east London and vowed to give his all as he begins a new chapter in English football.
“I’m grateful to be here. I’ll give my all and do my best to help the team achieve,” Ouma said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the supporters and hearing them cheer every tackle, every duel and every goal.”
Charlton manager Nathan Jones revealed that the club had monitored Ouma for a long time and believes the midfielder will add quality to his squad.
“We’re delighted to get Timothy over the line. He’s a player that we’ve monitored for a long, long time and he comes with real good pedigree,” Jones said.
“He’s an athletic, technical midfield player who has had some good experience and he’ll add real quality to our midfield.”
Charlton managing director James Rodwell also welcomed the Kenyan, saying he fits the profile the club identified as they continue to strengthen their squad.
“We’re delighted to bring Timothy to the club. He’s a player we’ve admired for some time and someone who fits the profile we identified as we continue to move the squad forward,” Rodwell said.
“He brings athleticism, quality on the ball and a real presence in midfield, and we’re looking forward to seeing him in a Charlton shirt.”
Rodwell added that the option to make the transfer permanent puts Charlton in a strong position should Ouma impress during his loan spell.
“We’ve also secured an option to make the transfer permanent, subject to certain conditions, which puts us in a strong position should Timothy contribute in the way we expect him to,” he added.
From Nairobi City Stars to England
Born in Nairobi, Ouma began his professional career with Nairobi City Stars, where he spent two years before making the move to Europe.
He joined Swedish top-flight side IF Elfsborg in the summer of 2022 and spent three seasons with the club. During his time in Sweden, Ouma gained valuable European experience, making 13 appearances in the UEFA Europa League.
His performances earned him a move to Czech giants Slavia Prague, although he spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan in Poland with Lech Poznań.
Ouma made 34 appearances for Lech Poznań and helped the club lift the Ekstraklasa title while gaining further experience in European competition.
He now gets the opportunity to test himself in the English Championship, one of Europe’s most competitive second-tier leagues.
Reunion with Sichenje
Ouma will also link up with fellow Kenya international Collins Sichenje at Charlton Athletic.
Sichenje, a defender, joined Charlton from Serbian side FK Vojvodina midway through the 2025/26 season and has been part of the club’s first-team setup.
Ouma’s arrival means Charlton now have two Kenyan internationals in their ranks, providing an opportunity for the Harambee Stars teammates to work together at club level.

The move also gives both players a chance to continue developing in England while competing in the Championship.
Ouma has established himself as part of the Kenya national team setup since making his debut in November 2021 in a 1-1 draw against Uganda.
The midfielder has since earned 12 caps for Harambee Stars and will now hope regular football in England can further his development at both club and international level.
His move to Charlton marks another important step in a European career that began with Nairobi City Stars and has since taken him through Sweden, the Czech Republic and Poland.
With Sichenje already at the club, Ouma’s arrival adds another Kenyan connection to Charlton as the Addicks prepare for the new Championship campaign.
