Kenya’s top-ranked tennis sensation Angella Okutoyi began her Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) professional career on a purple patch, clinching her maiden doubles title on Saturday night at the inaugural 2026 Angola Ladies Open.

Okutoyi and her Burundian counterpart, Sada Nahimana, lifted the W125 Angola Ladies Open Doubles title after defeating second-seeded pair Martyna Kubka and Justina Mikulskye in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the final held at Lwena Court.

“I want to congratulate our opponents for such a good match, but we got the win, and I know one day you will too. I want to thank Sada for playing with me.

It was very nice, and this was the third time we have played together and won. Especially, this being my first WTA title and winning it with you means a lot, so thank you so much,” the 22-year-old Okutoyi said after securing her maiden WTA crown.

“I’m so happy today. I want to congratulate Justina and Kubka for a good match, but I also want to thank Angie for agreeing to play with me throughout the week. She plays well and is amazing,” said 25-year-old Nahimana, who has achieved career-high WTA rankings of No. 218 in singles and no.199 in doubles, as she showered Okutoyi with praise.

The duo capped off an impressive run in Angola, advancing to the semifinals after receiving a walkover in the quarterfinals from Maayan Laron and Madhurima Sawant.

They then overcame top seeds Zongyu Li and Kristina Novak, winning 7-5, 7-5 on Friday to book their place in the title decider, where they ultimately prevailed.

Okutoyi made her WTA debut on November 3 at the same tournament in the singles competition, which got off to a difficult start.

However, she displayed resilience despite being eliminated in the round of 32 by eighth seed Sofya Lansere, losing 6-0, 7-5.

Meanwhile, Nahimana, who is no stranger to the WTA circuit after making her debut in 2018, also bowed out of the singles competition in the round of 32, falling 2-1 to Franziska Sziedat.
